Drewlec install Christchurch car park lighting

Motorists are making use of new lighting in the Saxon Square car park this winter, which has been installed by Drewlec Electrical Services.

The Bournemouth-based Drewlec, the electrical services arm of The Drewitt Group, has installed 58 new LED light fittings into the central Christchurch car park lower deck for the benefit of town centre shoppers this winter. The new LED fittings will use only a third of the power required by the old lights making a huge saving in power consumption on the site. In addition, the wiring system was upgraded along with the main switchgear and distribution equipment.

Richard Drewitt, managing director of The Drewitt Group, said: “We are really proud to be able give a much-needed upgrade to the lighting of a car park which is based in Christchurch and is well used by residents and visitors to the town.

“We hope that it will continue to benefit car park users for many years to come throughout the changing seasons as the first stop on their way to work, shopping, cafes and restaurants in Christchurch.”

It took the team 30 days to install the lights, which have replaced the lights that were last updated over 20 years ago, and cover the 258 car parking spaces at the car park off the Fountain Roundabout. The works were phased to enable the car park to stay open for the period of the works.

Jonathan Ross, Property, Engineering and Car Parks Manager for Christchurch and East Dorset Councils, said: “Ahead of the cold, winter season, we wanted to update the lights in the Saxon Square car park and we were pleased to welcome Drewlec to complete the work for us for the benefit of car park users.”
