Enthusiasts urged to help ease congestion during popular Bournemouth Air Festival

Bournemouth is gearing up for one of the UK’s premier air festivals, and local bus operator Morebus is urging enthusiasts to leave their cars at home before hopping on-board to join the festivities.

The famous Bournemouth Air Festival takes place along the town’s coastline from Thursday 31 August to Sunday 3 September. It has entertained more than 10.5 million people since 2008, and the sheer number of visitors expected for this year’s event is set to increase congestion in the town.

“This is a wonderful occasion for the whole region – with so many attractions on offer in the air and on the ground,” said Morebus head of communications Nikki Honer.

“It’s so popular we know car parks will be full and very busy. But those attending can by-pass the need to find somewhere to leave their cars because we will have plenty of buses on hand to get them close to the action. For only £2 each way, we have a sustainable way of getting people there.

Morebus’ m1 and m2 buses run between Poole, Bournemouth, Castlepoint, Royal Bournemouth Hospital, Boscombe and Southbourne up to every four minutes throughout the day.

“Getting tickets is very easy – even for those who may not regularly catch the bus,” added Nikki. “In addition to accepting cash, we take contactless tap on tap off payments from phones, cards or watches. People can download their ticket on their phone via our app too. They can also use the app to plan their journeys in advance and view timetables for each of our routes.”

How to get to the Air festival:

From Poole – routes m1, m2, 16, 17, 20 and Breezer 70
From Christchurch – routes 1a, 1b, 1c
From Ringwood – routes X3 and X6
