FOCUS ON EDUCATION: The importance of adult training

The transformative effect of digital technology and innovation has touched everyone from home to the workplace and has created a need to commit to the learning of new skills at many varying stages of life.

Access to a range of adult skills initiatives and training programmes, has allowed many people – who would otherwise today have been unable to book a restaurant table, consult with a GP, apply for a job or attend a virtual event for example – to actively develop their digital competency.

Through our range of adult training courses – offered by Dorset Training Academy, our leisure programme and our Weymouth Town Centre community campus – we can see that adult education has had an extremely important role to play within our local community.  It encourages those with many different skills levels to take a first step back into training.  A step which can lead to career progression, life skills development or simply a route back to employment.

Adult education and training continue to support social mobility and the levelling out of skills inequalities within local communities. They can also help businesses to retain and retrain employees and play a fundamental role for business sustainability, growth and recovery.

Weymouth College Employer Services have been pleased to see the increase in enquiries from both individuals and businesses with regards to adult education. We do however, anticipate that whilst there is a growing appetite for training, many organisations are still unfamiliar with the wide range of training opportunities and government funding available to support them.

Our Employer Services Team would be pleased to work with you – undertaking a bespoke organisational needs analysis and offering advice and guidance on identified adult training opportunities and available funding support.

Please contact us today to find out more about adult education and training at Weymouth College.
