FOCUS ON EDUCATION: Weymouth College celebrate securing over 40 young adults in new roles

Weymouth College Kickstart Gateway is pleased to announce that through the Government’s £2bn Kickstart Scheme – and working alongside the DWP and our local employers – we have secured placements for over 40 young people in roles which are enhancing their employability skills and provided them with valuable work experience.

Recent figures published by the Office for Budget Opportunity, have estimated that the Government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme alone will have cost in excess of £65 billion since its introduction in March 2020.

With the Job Retention Scheme and the Kickstart Scheme both coming to an end over the coming months, it is difficult for anyone to predict the affect this will have on the future employment market.

However, education and training options will help employers to offer support to their employees as these schemes draw to a close.

Over the last 18 months we have seen a huge change in employment, recruitment and retention models with a lot of local employers utilising online training courses to upskill or retrain employees.

Our Dorset Training Academy has a range of commercial courses, which can help your business to develop additional skills and aid new ways of working. This training will help businesses to stay ahead of the competition, recognise and address operational and skills gaps, offer in-work progression opportunities, whilst developing the knowledge and skills that contribute to increased job satisfaction.

Working in partnership, we can help to support you as you move your business forward post COVID. We can help you find ways to identify training needs and progression opportunities for both current, returning and new employees.

We offer regular sector-specific Employer Advisory Groups which help facilitate the partnership between education and business – ensuring the skills, training and local workforce demands are collaboratively identified and supported in order to aid our local economy going forward.
