Dorset Chartered Builders, Greendale Construction Limited, has funded the instillation of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) at its Bourne Valley Road, Poole offices. The life-saving device, which costs over £1527 to purchase and install, has been placed outside the Old Generator House building, and can be accessed around the clock by anyone requiring it in an emergency.
Maria Seabright, finance and HR director at Greendale commented:“In an emergency, finding the nearest defibrillator can be a matter of life and death. When someone is in cardiac arrest and not breathing, every second counts, and this is why Greendale chose to purchase and install the defibrillator which is registered with the ambulance service who can give out its location for anyone in need in the vicinity. If a defibrillator is used within the first 4 minutes of a person suffering a cardiac arrest, their chances of survival can increase to 70%, compared to just 5% if defibrillation is delayed.”
Susan Turner, Business Training Manager at Ouch commented:“Ouch was delighted to support Greendale’s purchase of a public access defibrillator, and we were able to provide free training to all staff based at the Poole office, enabling the local community to benefit from the provision of this vital lifesaving equipment. I was able to demonstrate to the team the simplicity of operating such a valuable piece of equipment, and as a South West Ambulance Service community first responder myself, I see first-hand the necessity of having a network of AED’s across the country.”
