Hall & Woodhouse combats local litter

Team members from 15 of Hall & Woodhouse’s pubs based across the county took part in the Brewery’s annual community litter pick event, Founder’s Sweepers.

The Founder’s Sweepers litter campaign was introduced by Hall & Woodhouse (H&W) more than 10 years ago and is run in association with Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean initiative. This annual event is held to celebrate Founder’s Day, the anniversary of when H&W was founded in 1777 and the ambition is that all 52 of H&W’s managed pubs across the south support this activity each year.

Over the past couple weeks team members from the Brewery and H&W’s 15 Dorset-based managed pubs including, The Angel Inn in Wimborne, The Grasshopper in Poole, The Old Granary in Wareham, St Peter’s Finger in Poole and the company’s very first pub, The Ship Inn in Weymouth, took to the streets to collect as many bags of rubbish as possible in their local areas. The company-wide campaign is backed each year with the aim to improve the environment for residents and wildlife.

Anthony Woodhouse, Chairman of Hall & Woodhouse, said: “Since we started our annual litter pick over 10 years ago, we have gathered and disposed of more than 5,000 bags of rubbish which would have otherwise been left on our streets causing potential harm to the land and our local wildlife.

“Taking to the streets each year is something that we are very passionate about as it is one of the ways we give back to the communities within which we are situated, to help ensure they stay clean and safe places to live and work. Everyone gets involved and the day is always rounded off with a piece of Founder’s Day cake.”

Hall & Woodhouse is a local independent family company that brews award-winning Badger ales and runs a collection of 180 beautiful pubs and inns across the south of England. The business is dedicated to supporting its local communities and causes, having invested more than £30million in its public houses over the past five years. This is on top of their regular and extensive charity donations, which includes having raised over £800,000 for its chosen charities in the last seven years.
