A foundry operative who suffered stomach injuries and a broken arm at work has launched a compensation claim against his former employer.
Leading Dorset law firm Coles Miller is acting for furnaceman Darren Rose who was crushed as he tried to clear jammed scrap metal from a tray at the Eurac Poole Ltd brake disc casting factory.
Eurac Poole Ltd of Mannings Heath Road has been fined £60,000 after a Health and Safety Executive (HSE) prosecution. The company admitted breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
Mr Rose, 39, of Bournemouth has taken out a civil claim against Eurac Poole Ltd. He is claiming compensation for the injuries that he suffered. Eurac has not admitted liability but has made an interim payment of £5,000 to Mr Rose.
The injured furnaceman underwent treatment at Poole Hospital for two fractures to his left forearm and for crush injuries to his stomach.
Surgeons fitted a metal implant in the injured arm and removed a section of Mr Rose’s small intestine. The implant is still in place and Mr Rose is suffering from residual problems following his injuries.
Mr Rose also suffered a psychological reaction to his injuries. Coles Miller is working on his behalf to obtain expert medical evidence relating to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
His claim is being handled by Coles Miller personal injury executive Peter Graves who has instructed barrister Lauren Seager of Queen Square Chambers of Bristol and Cardiff.
