Local Building Envelope Company Involved in Expansion of Two Major Local Hospitals

T. A. Colbourne Projects Limited, based in Ling Road, Poole and known locally as TAC Projects, have been successful in securing the exteral building envelope to major extensions to both Poole General Hospital and Royal Bournemouth Hospital, both part of the University Hospitals Dorset (UHD) NHS Trust.

Poole General Hospital has had two new state of the art Surgical Theatres with supporting HVAC Plant Rooms added to the existing Hospital, with the project started in 2021 and is scheduled to be fully completed during this year.

Royal Bournemouth Hospital is currently in the middle of having a new Womans and Children Unit added, with tower cranes dominating the Bournemouth skyline, plus a new Energy Centre to provide power to the new unit, new Car Parking Facilities and a completely new Main Entrance. This large seven storey extension, which will be known as the BEACH Building, will dwarf the rest of the existing low rise Hospital buildings and indicates a change in design from UHD to accommodate more space on the existing site by extending upwards rather than outwards where there is no room to grow. The project commenced in 2021 and is due for completion in 2024/25.

Both Hospitals are being built by main contractor IHP JV (a healthcare joint venture between Vinci and Sir Robert McAlpine) with T. A. Colbourne in turn being employed by IHP JV.

T. A. Colbourne Projects Limited have provided the external facade to Poole General Hospital consisting of mineral wool composite steel cladding panels, aluminium louvres, glazed windows, secondary support steelwork and expanded mesh cladding to the large Plant Room riser ducts, and have completed their contracted work.

On Royal Bournemouth Hospital, T. A. Colbourne Projects Limited are currently providing mineral wool compsite steel cladding panels, fibre cement rainscreen panels, aluminium louvres, aluminium roofing, secondary support steelwork and maintenance access systems including specialist abseil rope access rails.

Tom Colbourne, Managing Director of T, A. Colbourne Projects Limited stated “We are extremely proud as a local Dorset buiness to have secured both prestigious Hospital projects, as it involves supporting the local community whilst doing what we do best – building challenging important public buildings. We have a continually growing reputation, both locally and across the South of England, for delievering high quality external envelopes to prestigious buildings, and this is down to the skill, knowledge, dedication and collaborative work ethic adopted by every member of the TAC Projects’ working family”.
