New Lottery funding to support local volunteers

Thanks to an award of £10,000 from the National Lottery, Community Action Network (CAN) will continue to recruit community volunteers right across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

During the pandemic through the #TogetherWeCan initiative, CAN is working with BCP Council to recruit and deploy hundreds of volunteers to help some of the most vulnerable people locally to access food and medication – enabling people to feel more connected to their community and less isolated.

A local resident told us ‘My volunteer is a lifesaver – he’s a five star chap’.

A volunteer said, ‘I just wanted to help, now I love it and want to do more volunteering.’

CAN want to continue to support community volunteering when we come out of the pandemic, and this funding will help them safely recruit and support people who want to put something back into their community long term.

Karen Loftus, Chief Executive at CAN said, “This funding means we’ll be better able to support brilliant  volunteers and promote a sense of great community spirit, not just during the pandemic but as a fantastic legacy for years to come.
