Superior donates £10,000

A leading Dorset-based manufacturer has donated £10,000 to support a charity which helps children who have been the victims of abuse.

Superior, which is based in the Ferndown Industrial Estate, made the donation to Acts Fast (Abused Children’s Trauma Support, Family Advice and Strategy Team), a good cause based in Poole which supports the non-abusive parents and carers of children who have been the victims of child sexual abuse. The charity, which was founded in 2014, has two part-time members of staff and five volunteers who work to provide support to those in need.

Acts Fast provides emotional and practical assistance to people affected by abuse through a range of different channels, including drop-in sessions, trained volunteers working out in the community and a telephone helpline. The charity has recently expanded its remit to work with the wives and partners of a loved one who has been arrested for downloading indecent child images.

Tim Brown, Managing Director of Superior, heard about the charity through one of its patrons, the Lord Lieutenant of Dorset, Angus Campbell, who told him about the cause’s aims and plans to expand to help more people.

Tim said: “We are proud to support Acts Fast which is a fantastic, local charity which does amazing work within the community. We hope our donation will enable the cause to go from strength-to- strength and will allow the staff and volunteers to assist more people in the foreseeable future.”

In 2018, the charity supported more than 70 families and expects that number to increase to 100 throughout the year by the end of 2019. Mandy Gulliver, CEO of Acts Fast, says that the charity does not directly support the child or children involved, but works with the parents and carers to deal with their own trauma, as well as helping them to best support their children and manage their behaviour.

Mandy said: “We are extremely grateful to Tim Brown and everyone at Superior for making such a generous donation. I am deeply moved that they have not only financially supported us but have not shied away from supporting our charity, which assists the families and carers of sexually abused children, as this is sadly still a very difficult and taboo topic in our society.”
