Superior, a leading manufacturer based in Dorset, is encouraging employers from across the county to put forward their top apprentices for an award.
The firm is proud to sponsor the Apprentice of the Year category at the Dorset Business Awards 2019, which aims to recognise a person who acts as an ambassador for apprenticeships, as well as harnessing the training and development opportunities presented to them.
Applications are open to both non-members and members of Dorset Chamber from any sector and industry at Dorsetbusinessawards.co.uk. Entries to the Apprentice of the Year category must give examples of how the apprentice has made a significant contribution to support the company’s work and how they have a proven track record of adding value to their business through their apprenticeship.
Following the closing date on Friday, August 2, a shortlist of finalists will be drawn up and those businesses will be visited, before three finalists are selected to attend the gala dinner at the BIC in Bournemouth on Thursday 28 November.

Last year, the Young Apprentice Ambassador of the Year accolade was presented to Tilly Cuttler from J.P Morgan. The shortlisted finalists were Gareth Holford from Weymouth College and Tom Davis from Cloudserv.
Tilly Cuttler said: “Winning the award was an incredible achievement not only for myself as an apprenticeship champion, but for apprenticeships as a whole. It is incredible to see that apprenticeships are being recognised across Dorset as a successful and well valued avenue into which young people can progress.”
Superior is a family-owned manufacturer of high integrity o-rings and seals, which strives to create a culture of continuous improvement in the design and manufacture of o-rings and special mouldings. In 2009, Superior recognised a skills shortage in the local area and established an Apprenticeship Academy in 2012 to ensure the skills base it requires can be found in the next workforce.
The firm works hard to ensure it invests early in aspiring engineers and scientists by offering valuable work experience placements in the Academy, as well as tours for parents, teachers and students. Academy apprentices frequently visit local schools to deliver presentations during assemblies, as well as Academy staff dedicating time to local schools to support the introduction of engineering qualifications into curriculums.
