The Questions You Should Never Ask In An Interview

Before a job interview, you will spend a fair amount of time thinking about the questions you are likely to be asked.

What questions should you steer clear of? And which ones might leave the interviewer impressed?

Russell Hawkes, Technical Recruitment Consultant and Heather Lloyd, Commercial Recruitment Consultant share their perspective.

The Questions To Avoid

  • The questions that suggest you haven’t read the brief – You should not be asking for information that a tiny amount of Googling should already have answered.

  • The “What’s in it for me?” questions – don’t ask bluntly about bonuses and how many sick days you can take.

✘ The “I’ve got the job already” questions – don’t want to be so confident that you’re negotiating the detail before the employer has shown an interest in you.

Russell advocates showing enthusiasm and a real sense of drive. Don’t give one-word and two-word answers.

“I’d suggest to go in with a handful of questions which you are interested in getting the answers to. Be attentive and have energy. Be confident but not cocky,” he adds.

If you have been briefed by a good consultant, you will be able to go in with genuine confidence that you can ask the right kind of questions.
