Turning the Pandemic on its Head: New Venture Opens at Poole Quay

Hennings Quayside Eatery, Bar and Boutique Gifts has opened on Poole Quay, creating new jobs and giving the area a brand-new offering.

The venture from well-known and award-winning Chamber member, Signature Catering, came about as the result of the unit the events catering company worked from falling silent during the pandemic, and a customer care call to one of its clients, City Cruises.

The national cruise company which has office space at Poole Quay, was also operating the café on the ground floor. As the two companies already had an established working relationship, the discussion soon turned to handing over the running of the café to Ian Davey and his business partner Richard Abson.

Since the ground floor also has enough space for event catering, Signature Catering has been able to give up its lease on the redundant unit and move to premises where it can generate a public-facing income until such a time that the event catering business also picks up.

Ian Davey said: “We were able to take a government Bounce Back Loan to ensure the restaurant and catering area are as needed for a sustainable future. We’re now welcoming people for COVID-secure coffee, patisseries charcuterie, and main meals, while our small boutique has a range of lovely gifts.  As COVID restrictions change, we are working towards having a 40-50 cover event space and we have an outside area, which we will open when the weather is brighter too. We’d love to welcome other Chamber members and customers, so please do come and say hello!

Hennings Eatery, and Boutique and Gifts is located on Poole Quay and sources its produce from local suppliers, farms and butchers.
