What To Do When A Good Team Member Leaves

It’s a fact of life in any business that good team members will sometimes leave. As a business what do you do?

Vicki Reeks and Michelle Mitchell share what a company needs to consider when a good person leaves.

Vicki says, “As humans, when someone leaves a business it can hurt. We aren’t built like robots, and a business relationship being severed can hurt just as much as a personal one.”

Michelle shares this sentiment, saying: “When you work in small teams, colleagues are more like friends.”

How can it become a positive?

“When someone leaves a company, there is a gap left over. This gives the existing team members an opportunity to step up, and allows for change to happen,” explains Michelle.

“A business has nurtured and grown a person’s skillset to the point where they can progress in their career.”

“You have grown that individual to spring their career forward, something that wouldn’t be possible without input. Not many jobs are jobs for life any more, and progression is what every person is looking for. Careers do move on, and that doesn’t always have to be so negative.”

If you support the company that you are a part of, and the people within it, then you are doing your bit.

People come into a role wanting to get the most out of it possible, regardless of timeline.
