Poole marketing agency b4b is pleased to announce the opening of a new non-alcoholic bar & coffee shop, which officially opened its doors to the public on Friday 18 February.
sobar, based in Ashley Cross, is the South’s first independent alcohol-free bar and coffee shop, and is the dream of Dave Tonkes, a local father of three who has spent 34 years in the financial services industry.
The team at b4b have been managing the social media, photography, PR and promotion for the new venue, along with building a new website that will be launched soon.
Work has been forging ahead at pace at the Bournemouth Road site, formerly occupied by Bennetts Family Bakers, for the last two months, with the design concepts being led by locally-based KTM Design who took inspiration from the environment to reflect Dave’s vision of a chilled, laid-back bar.
Managing the promotion of sobar has been an exciting project to work on for the b4b team, with publicity for the new venture included Dave interviewed on both BBC Radio Solent and BBC South Today.
Seeing sobar come to life is a dream come true for Dave: “Owning a bar has always been in the back of my mind – a fun, vibrant environment where people can enjoy a good time with friends without waking up the next morning with a hangover!”

sobar will be open from 10.30am to 5pm, Tuesday to Saturday, with a later closing time of 11pm Wednesday to Saturday inclusive.
IPA, lager and cider will be available on draught, together with sparkling white wine, rosé, prosecco, around 15 spirit alternatives and a range of exciting cocktails – all alcohol-free. As well as the non-alcoholic drinks, a selection of coffees and vegan and gluten-free biscotti and cakes will be served.
There will be seating for 30 with additional standing space.
sobar will be the available for private hire on Sunday & Monday, as well as Tuesday evening.
