Bournemouth & Poole College introduce new engineering course

Bournemouth & Poole College has extended its engineering course provision and is now offering students the opportunity to study for a Level 2 qualification in Mechatronics Engineering.

The one-year Mechatronics Engineering course is blend of electrical and mechanical units, giving learners the opportunity to gain a broad understanding of, and develop extensive skills, in the engineering sector.

On completion, students can progression to a more specialised Level 3 vocational or academic engineering course or an apprenticeship.

Steve Burns, Learning Manager for Engineering at Bournemouth & Poole College, said: “We often hear of students that know they want to become engineers. They may already love tinkering with their own belongings, fixing electronics, or mending things, but aren’t sure on how to convert these interests into a career.  Previously, those looking to study engineering would need to choose either electrical or mechanical units early on in their studies. The Mechatronics Engineering course offers the opportunity to study both before students decide which route is preferred.

“Our engineering courses provide an excellent stepping stone into highly paid careers or on to degree apprenticeships or other higher education routes, with many of our alumni working at leading engineering companies or studying at top universities.”

Jacqueline Page, Vice Principal at Bournemouth & Poole College, added: “Young people often believe they have to complete A Levels and go to university for a successful career in engineering, but this just isn’t true. When students finish our courses, they leave with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience which sets them up perfectly for a brilliant career.”

Students looking to study engineering are invited to attend Bournemouth & Poole College’s next Open Event, taking place on Thursday 11th May. Tickets can be booked at thecollege.co.uk/open. Alternatively, email sam@thecollege.co.uk to book a tour.
