Plans to progress three new social housing schemes in the BCP Council area will be considered at the next Cabinet meeting on 16 December. The proposed housing schemes are for Wilkinson Drive and Duck Lane in Bournemouth and Cynthia House site in Poole. If approved, these schemes will contribute towards the significant housing need in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
The council is looking to invest around £10 million to provide much needed additional council housing at the three sites which include affordable rent, social rent and shared ownership.
The proposals for new housing in Bournemouth are:
- A new build scheme of four 3-bedroom and nine 2 bedroom flats at Wilkinson Drive
- Twelve 2-bedroom flats at Duck Lane, Bournemouth.
Both schemes will have associated parking and landscaping and will be designed to high energy efficiency standards with ground source heat pumps and triple glazing.
The homes in Wilkinson Drive will be for social rent, and the homes in Duck Lane will be affordable rent for smaller families, helping towards Local Plan housing targets and will be available to those on the Housing register.
The proposals for new homes at the former site of Cynthia House in Poole are:
- 22 new council homes comprising 10 houses and 12 flats
Cabinet will consider the recommendation of the award of a new contract for the demolition of the current empty building and construction of the new council homes at affordable rents and low cost shared ownership. These homes will help to deliver much needed council housing across Poole and will be built to high energy efficiency standards ensuring the highest quality build and impact on local lives.
