Hospital fire alarm system upgraded by Drewlec

As part of the ongoing programme of works, Bournemouth-based Drewlec, the electrical services arm of The Drewitt Group, is provided upgrades to the fire alarm system used within Poole Hospital.

The work carried out by Drewlec Electrical Services has included:

  • Installation of new dedicated fire network cabling using fibre optic cables to cover the whole site, linking all network panels including remote sites such as St Mary’s Maternity Unit.
  • Replacement of all main fire alarm equipment including fire panels, detectors, sounders and call points.
  • Upgrade of the graphics system which enables users to see in real time on a large display screen the location of any fire alarm event across the site enabling faster response times.
  • Providing detailed design advice and planning in a busy working hospital.

Richard Drewitt, managing director of The Drewitt Group, commented: “Poole Hospital is such a vital part of the town’s community, and we are proud to continue our work ensuring that its fire alarm facilities are up to date, regularly maintained and provide a further 20-25 years of life span cycle for the hospitals fire detection system”.

“We have worked with the Fire Officer, Gary Grindrod, and Capital Works Manager, Stuart Mondon, and all the maintenance team at Poole Hospital to ensure that the upgrade has been carried out with minimal disruption and allowing services to continue as normal.”

Hospital Fire Officer, Gary Grindrod, added: “The Drewlec team have provided excellent service and on-site support for over five years and continue to deliver the upgrade project on time and within budget.”
