Smith & Williamson appointed by Vectis Ventures to help with expansion strategy

Vectis Ventures, the company behind Blackgang Chine and Robin Hill Country Park, has appointed the accountancy, investment management and tax group as part of its expansion strategy.

Based in the IOW and founded in 1843, Vectis Ventures has enlisted the audit and tax services of the South Coast office of Smith & Williamson.

Andrew Edmonds, managing partner from the South Coast practice of Smith & Williamson, leads the work.

Andrew said: “Vectis Ventures  were looking for a firm with a strong reputation acting for family owned businesses and providing solutions to help them with their next phase of growth, particularly as they look to expand rapidly over the next few years.”

Rob Holgate, Managing Director of Vectis Ventures, said: “Smith & Williamson are the kind of forward thinking firm who can expose us to a wider professional and relationship network that will add value to our relationship with them as our auditors. Having met the senior team at Smith & Williamson we were very impressed with their approach and felt they could help us where we are now and as we grow.”

Rob continued “We are looking to expand our island based activities over the medium term including moving to a year round operation. This will involve significant investment (£30m) over the next few years, having a firm such as Smith & Williamson who can help us maximise this investment by assisting us in the capital raising and ensuring our systems are robust to meet this challenge was essential for us.”

Background. Vectis Ventures Limited is the parent company of two large tourist attractions situated on the Isle of Wight, offering a range of exciting activities and memorable experiences for all.

Blackgang Chine is set on the cliff tops near Ventnor on the Isle of Wight. With stunning sea-views, and filled with an eclectic mix of attractions, magical theme worlds and exciting rides, you’ll find something for all the family at Blackgang Chine.

Blackgang Chine was founded by Alexander Dabell in 1843 when all that stood was the Chine itself, a spectacular gorge that cut some 500 foot deep into the cliff face. The Victorians travelled from far and wide to experience its breathtaking views – even Queen Victoria visited in 1853.   The park’s very first ‘attraction’ was the skeleton of a whale which had been washed up onto the beach – and is still on display at Blackgang Chine today. Blackgang Chine celebrates it 175 anniversary this year.

Robin Hill country Park in Newport in the Isle of Wight is set in 88 acres of beautiful countryside and is a destination for visitors of all ages looking for outdoor fun, adventure and great family experience. With some incredible day and night time experiences to be found throughout the season
