Trekkers Triumph after Conquering Dorset 3 Peaks

An epic journey was completed by 29 intrepid supporters of local disability charity, Diverse Abilities, when they took on a marathon distance trek and conquered Dorset’s three highest peaks in under 12 hours.

As well as taking part in the Dorset 3 Peaks event, the fantastic supporters raised over £9,000 for the Dorset charity that provides vital support to children and adults living with physical and learning disabilities across the county.

The conditions on the day were perfect and all 29 trekkers completed the 26.2-mile challenge facing undulating terrain walking along the famous Wessex Ridgeway. The three peaks included an ascent up Lewesdon Hill, Pilsdon Pen and Bulbarrow Hill accumulating a combined height of over 1350ft – more than the ascent of Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain!

Natasha Wharton, who works at The Global Group in Bournemouth, said: “The Dorset Three Peaks challenge was an incredibly inspiring and enjoyable day. Everyone in the group, including our experienced mountain leaders, were really supportive of one another which really helped when energy levels waned and blisters appeared!

“Over the past couple of years, I’ve set myself various challenges raising money for charities, including challenge hikes so when this challenge came to my attention I had to take part. The company I work for, The Global Group, support Diverse Abilities so I’ve come to learn a lot about the difference the charity makes to people’s lives and I wanted to be able to contribute to that, while also doing something that I love. No doubt I’ll be returning to take part next year!”

Lauren McCullough, events manager at Diverse Abilities, said: “The Dorset 3 Peaks challenge was not only perfect for those that enjoy walking or love spectacular views, but for those wishing to push boundaries and be taken out of their comfort zone. We had a fantastic time along the way and would like to thank all participants for taking part.”
